Students who play fall sports have the option of marching in parades only. In order to be qualify for this exemption from the field show, students must do the following:
- Inform both the director and coach in advance of their intentions.
- Attend the one-week basics camp from July 28th through August 1st at UHS. (If the student is a freshman, he or she must also attend freshman camp from July 23rd through July 25th.)
- Pay the $30 fee to help cover the cost of marching band instructors and equipment.
- Attend ALL parade rehearsals and parades without exception. This can be a sticking point for some, but students need to understand that by marching in parades only, they are being excused from approximately 80-90% of all fall band activities. The directors try to schedule rehearsals around fall sports schedules, but sometimes it is impossible to do so. There will likely be times that a few fall sports participants will have to miss a practice or game to attend a band rehearsal or performance. (When faced with conflicts between parades, reharsals, and several sports, we try to schedule band things so that the fewest students are negatively affected.)
- Sign and return the FALL SPORTS CONTRACT by the start of school.
