Symphonic Winds
Symphonic Winds is the program's top audition-only ensemble for wind players and percussionists that performs advanced concert band repertoire. The UHS Symphonic Winds is widely considered one of West Virginia's top concert ensembles.
All members also participate in Marching Band.

Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Combo
Jazz Ensemble is an audition-only, traditional big band jazz ensemble consisting of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, and a rhythm section. Students will have the opportunity to perform many different jazz styles. We also have a smaller Jazz Combo that will be made up from members of the ensemble. All members also participate in Marching Band.

Concert Band
A traditional, full-instrumentation band class that performs literature based on the ability level of the ensemble. Concert band is open to all wind players and percussionists without audition.
All members also participate in Marching Band.

Symphony Orchestra
The UHS Symphony Orchestra is an advanced performing ensemble that combines the school’s orchestra and symphonic winds. Students in this ensemble will study and perform orchestral masterworks from various musical periods and cultures. This ensemble is only available on a year-by-year basis.

Percussion Ensemble
Percussion Ensemble is one of the school's chamber ensembles. Students of the ensemble learn a variety of music - from classical music to pop music - and play percussion instruments such as marimbas, xylophones, snare and bass drum, timpani, trash cans, buckets, and more!
Students wishing to enroll in Percussion Ensemble must be a member of the band and must get director approval.

UHS Hawk Marching Band
A co-curricular ensemble that consists of members of all the curricular ensembles and includes summer band, in-school and after-school rehearsals, and performances. The Marching band is the most active ensemble at UHS, and is the program's most important public-relations tool. In order to be eligible to participate in any other UHS ensembles, students must participate in the Marching Band, either by marching in the field show (along with parades), or parade-only if the student plays a fall sport.

UHS Color Guard
The Color Guard is an audition-only group that consists of members working with flags, rifles, sabres, and batons. The guard performs primarily with Marching Band. Guard members must play an instrument and be enrolled in either Concert Band, Symphonic Winds, Jazz Ensemble, or Marching Band OT.

UHS Marching Percussion
The UHS Marching Percussion ensemble is an audition-only group that consists of the battery (drumline) and front ensemble (keyboard percussion, drumset, synthesizer, and more!). Members of the Marching Percussion ensemble must be enrolled in either Concert Band, Symphonic Winds, Jazz Ensemble, or Marching Band OT.
